Cairns

Cairns, located in far north Queensland has an approximate population of 110,000 and is a rapidly expanding city which is reliant on the thriving tourism industry. Set amongst lush rainforest and sugar cane fields it is the gateway to the world famous Great Barrier Reef.

Cairns is one of Australia’s most popular destinations for foreign visitors, with an International airport serving several Asian cities, including Japan, Hong Kong, Singapore and Indonesia.

Cairns is home to many of the most diverse natural wonders in Australia, being only an hour’s boat ride to the Great Barrier Reef, and an hour from the Daintree National Park and Cape Tribulation and the resort town of Port Douglas.

Cairns features many attractions and plenty of accommodation for all tastes and budgets. The city boasts some fantastic restaurants, good shopping and a large casino complex and wonderful natural attractions including Green Island.

Being in the tropics Cairns experiences a warm tropical climate with monsoonal rains occurring between November and March.

Cairns is services by rail, a national highway and international airport, and is easily accessible from all capital cities in Australia, with many cities having direct flights. Cruise ships also make Cairns a regular port on the Queensland leg of their cruise.
