The area’s largest industry is Sugar and timber but fishing, bananas and other fruit like mangos, papaya, melons and avocados are also great earners. This is one of the reasons why the area is very popular with backpackers, looking for some part time work to pay for their further travels.

In recent years aquaculture has become an important industry in the area, with great demand for Innisfall barramundi, crayfish, crocodile and prawns. Fishing is also a great pastime in the area, with beach fishing popular at Kurrimine and Bramston Beaches and the charter tour businesses which take people out to the reef for big game fishing.

The Palmerston National Park is a popular day trip for people visiting Innisfall, this lush jungle is home to a large array of plants and animals. There are good picnic facilities and plenty of walking tracks to explore the forest. Tour operators even operate horse rides in the area and there are numerous camping grounds.

The town of Innisfall has a population of about 8000, but the surrounding Johnstone Shire has around 19000 people, so the towns facilities are very good, with shopping, dining and all the services you would expect from a town this size.

Recently the Shire has opened a 3D virtual reality movie gallery where you can see some images of Innisfall and the surrounding are it is a great place to stop for a while and learn a little of how the town operates and what it has to offer.
