Adelaide

Adelaide is home to just over one million and is known as the City of Churches. Set in a beautiful setting surrounded by beautiful parkland the greater city is bound by the Mount Lofty Ranges better known as the Adelaide Hills.

With a thriving arts scene and a wealth of galleries and museums Adelaide is one of Australia’s more culturally aware cities.

The Adelaide Fringe Festival, Womadelaide and The Adelaide Festival of the Arts attract performers from all over the world and are all renowned as the some of the finest events of their type in the world.

Like Melbourne, the city is Australian Rules football mad, with 2 teams in the AFL, the Adelaide Crows and Port Power, and a very strong local competition

Adelaide is the driest of the Capital Cities, and experiences a hot dry summer, usually with several days reaching 40 degrees over summer. Winters a a little milder than that of Melbourne or Sydney.

Adelaide is probably best known world wide for its world class wine which is grown in the Adelaide Hills and the near by Barossa Valley which is home to many of Australia’s premier wine makers.

Adelaide is renowned for its amazing choice of restaurants, The city claims that there are more restaurants per head of population than anywhere else in Australia. One famous dish is the Pie Floater- it’s a meat pie turned upside down, covered in pea soup gravy and tomato sauce. They are a must to finish of a great night on the town.

As well as the modern glass and steel skyscrapers, Adelaide’s has many Victorian or Edwardian buildings which offer some of the finest examples of architecture in Australia. The city is also home to some beautifully preserved colonial-era homes with large verandas and Adelaide lace ironwork.
