In the early 1900s many Italians settled in Carlton, and over the years have made Lygon Street their own.
Jam packed with Australia’s best Italian restaurants, Lygon street was the first place in Australia to embrace out door dining and the Pizza.
There are dozens of restaurants offering fine pasta, steaks and wine. Many with outdoor terraces or street dining and nightly entertainment.
Friday and Saturday night dine to the beat beat of Ferrari and Alfa Romeos which cruise down the strip. During the March F1 Grand Prix the Ferrari excitement peaks to a frenzy of red flags.
Many of the Lygon Street facades are heritage listed and date back over 100 years, its a great place to explore then sit back and enjoy the wining, dining, cafe lattes and Italian delicacies.
Lygon Street is close to the Melbourne Zoo, Optus Oval, RMIT and Melbourne Museum and Imax complex and the major Children’s and Women hospitals.
Lygon street is easily accessible by tram from the city and is only about a 25 minute walk from the Melbourne City centre.
The Lygon Street Festival held in October each years brings thousands of people to a huge Multicultural street Party.
